Sam Smith is an English singer and songwriter who rose to fame when he was featured on Disclosure's breakthrough single "Latch". He also featured on Naughty Boy's "La La La", which earned Smith his first number one single. Smith released an EP titled Nirvana in 2013, and then released his debut studio album, In the Lonely Hour, in May 2014. The album has sold over 5 million copies globally. It broke records in America as the highest first week sales for a UK male artist in the SoundScan era, and Smith became the only artist in the world in 2014 to sell 1 million albums in both the UK and US.
At the 57th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2015 Sam Smith won four Grammys: Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Vocal Album. At the 2015 Brit Awards, he won the awards for British Breakthrough Act and Global Success.
